THE CAMEL CLUB

LEXINGTON, KY

Gibson Taylor Thompson served as Architect of Record for the Camel Club, an adaptive reuse project in Lexington’s historic Bell Court district. The transformation of a former fraternity house, single-family residence, and art gallery into a private club presented unique exterior and interior challenges, each reframed as opportunities to preserve character while introducing new life to the building. Extensive preservation measures were undertaken to stabilize and protect the structure, ensuring it is equipped for a vibrant future within our evolving city.

Inside, bespoke interiors designed by Jenny Bukovec of Jenny Bukovec Studios establish a layered, residential warmth with a refined sensibility. The design balances historic charm with contemporary comfort: walnut communal tables anchor the coworking areas, tailored seating and rich textiles create intimate gathering zones, and custom lighting infuses the spaces with a soft, atmospheric glow. Built-in millwork and curated artwork reinforce the feeling of a private salon, while a palette of warm woods, brass accents, and tactile fabrics evokes a timeless, collected character.

Beyond aesthetics, the building accommodates a wide range of programming, including a full commercial kitchen, multiple bars, a theater room, game room, coworking spaces, test kitchens for chef series, and expansive exterior patios. The project was developed and managed by Hank Morris of Morris & Atlas.
