This project involves the thoughtful design of an addition and renovation to a historic residence in Lexington’s Gratz Park District, one of the city’s most architecturally significant and carefully preserved neighborhoods. Our approach prioritized honoring the character and craftsmanship of the original home while providing modern functionality and comfort. The existing residence, with its stately proportions, historic brickwork, and refined detailing, served as both inspiration and guide. The new addition is deliberately scaled and articulated to read as an extension of the original structure without competing with it. Materials were selected to match and complement the existing façade, including historically appropriate brick coursing, trim profiles, and window proportions. Careful attention was paid to rooflines, cornice details, and fenestration patterns to ensure a seamless visual integration while maintaining a subtle distinction between old and new.
