CABIN RESTORATION & ADDITION
MACON, GA
Nestled in a wooded clearing, this once-negletted log cabin has been thoughtfully reimagined into a timeless and livable retreat. Originally constructed as a modest, utilitarian structure with minimal architectural embellishment, the cabin underwent a complete transformation guided by a desire to preserve its rustic soul while introducing elements of refinement and modern function.
Our restoration process focused first on stabilizing and refinishing the original log structure, bringing out the natural warmth and character of the hand-hewn timbers. From there, we reconfigured the floor plan to improve flow, openness, and usability, aligning it with the needs of a modern family while honoring the cabin’s traditional roots.
The addition of new front and rear porches reestablishes a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering layered views of the surrounding landscape and creating comfortable zones for gathering. A sunroom off the rear elevation invites natural light and frames views of the forest, while introducing an airy contrast to the cabin’s deeper, more intimate original rooms.
Architectural interventions include newly added dormers that bring balance to the roofline and draw light into the second floor, enhancing the cabin’s vertical expression. The refined brickwork terraces, metal roofing, and painted wood siding lend a grounded, curated aesthetic to the exterior palette, reinforcing the building’s vernacular character while elevating its presence.
The result is a home that feels authentic to its context, thoughtfully adapted for contemporary living. Every gesture—from reclaimed materials to subtle detailing—aims to preserve a sense of place, history, and quiet permanence.
