POMEGRANATE
LEXINGTON, KY
Originally built in the 1920s as a neighborhood gas station, this corner building at Main and Clay had seen multiple renovations over the decades and was in serious need of new life. Our team reimagined the structure as a vibrant retail space for Pomegranate, a beloved home and lifestyle brand, and introduced a thoughtfully designed courtyard and accessory building that now serve as an extension of Penny’s Restaurant.
Inside, the transformation celebrates natural light, texture, and craftsmanship. The open retail floor plan highlights custom millwork, layered lighting, and carefully curated vignettes that showcase the brand’s collection of linens, tabletop, and home goods. The goal was to retain the building’s modest charm while infusing it with warmth, sophistication, and a sense of discovery.
The exterior and courtyard create a seamless connection between the retail experience and outdoor dining. Framed by lush plantings, reclaimed brick, and woven trellis panels, the courtyard offers intimate gathering spaces defined by soft gravel, wicker seating, and shaded pergolas. Every element—from the mint-green French doors to the lantern lighting and classic brick detailing—was designed to harmonize with the building’s historic proportions while introducing a relaxed, European-inspired atmosphere.
What was once an underutilized corner is now a lively destination, bringing together retail, dining, and community in the heart of downtown Lexington.
